| Downloading and Installing CuteFTP Step 1. Visit the CuteFTP download section. Next, click on the appropriate radio button to select the version of our software that you want. Step 2. Enter your e-mail address in the form. Step 3. Click on the 'Download Now' button. If you receive any errors, select the GlobalSCAPE Mirror Site from the 'Download Site' list. Step 4. A window will pop up asking where to save the file. Save it to either your Windows Desktop (Win95/98/NT) or a folder on your hard drive. Step 5. After the download is complete, simply double-click on the downloaded file, and follow the installation instructions that will appear. Select Launch Connection Wizard when prompted. Click Finished to continue. If the Wizard does not appear, go to your 'Start' menu and find the GlobalSCAPE/CuteFTP shortcut. Launch the program and select Connection Wizard from the File menu.
CuteFTP Setup You will be guided by the setup Wizard. In Choose your ISP, choose Other and click Next to continue. Name the connection Grandecom, (or the name of your virtual domain) and click Next. Set the ftp server name to home.grandecom.net if you have a personal web page, or set it to www.yourdomain.com if you have a virtual domain. Click Next to continue. Set your username and password. If you are setting up a personal web page, your username will be the first part of your primary email address (username@grandecom.net). And your password will be the password associated with that email account. If you have a virtual domain, the username and password will correspond to the information that you gave us when signing up for service. To login as an anonymous user, check the 'anonymous' box and enter your email address as the password. Click Next to continue. The wizard will next ask you for a default Local Directory. You may set this or leave it blank. Click Next to continue. Now, set the way that you would like to connect to the server. Connect Automatically will be the easier way. If you prefer shell integration, please see the CuteFTP help files once the program is installed. Next, click Finish.
Transfering Files with CuteFTP Once connected to the server you will see a left and a right window pane with another at the bottom. Ignore the window on the bottom for now. The one on the left (local) is the files on your computer, on the right (remote) is the Grandecom server. If you have a personal web site, you will see a filder called public_html in the right pane. All files that you want accessible to the Internet must go inside this folder. To change filder, simply double click on it. Inside the public_html folder, you will see a file called index.html. This is a default file and can be overwritten at any time. This file is also the first page that people will see when viewing your site. If you have a virtual domain, you will see two folders on the right, html and logs. All files that you want accessible from the Internet must be placed in the html folder. If you are logged in as anonymous, you will need to change to the incoming directory (by double-clicking the incoming folder) to upload files. For security reasons, you will not be able to see the contents of this directory, but you may upload and download files of which you know the name. To transfer a file, double-click it. It will be sent to the opposite window pane. Double-click a file on the left side to publish it to the Internet, and vice versa to download to your computer. If you have a
personal web site, it can be viewed by using the URL format: |
